Mega Monster Mania!

Over here, we fancy our monsters! They've been part of our lives since the two oldest grandsons took a liking to their crookedly odd looks when they were a team of pint size monster hunters at the tender age of three. Since then, we've added younger sisters and a pair of girl cousins to the mix. Under normal circumstances, you'd expect little ladies to flinch at the fearsome fury created by these greedily grasping crazily creeping creatures.....

But not over here!

We recently sat down together at "Grandma's Mega Monster Mania" to paint some scary looking dudes destined to return in the form of embellished pillows that promise to forever haunt the scariest month of the year! I took hold of those freshly painted bodies, turned 'em inside out, stitched 'em up, buttoned 'em, dated 'em and sent 'em right back into the delighted little hands of their original creators!

The only thing we're scared of over here is missing out on Grandma's annual Halloween Workshop Events....the place where cousins gather to paint, decorate, bake and create! We wrap things up like a mummy with sleepovers preceded by backyard-after-dark fire pit s'mores-munching and (age appropriate!) ghost story telling sessions. Moms and dads sometimes join us for Glow Stick Hide and Seek, or a super fun "Vampires at Dark" game you can print out for free right here at "Prepared Not Scared." Be sure to check out Trish's entire treasure trove of exceptionally cute games and graphics that will give you a great start on the path to your own series of grandma-sponsored Halloween workshops!

  1. I can see that they are having another creative blast there! I thought of you yesterday morning early a.m. when I woke up to a snake right next to me on the pillow...Kanga thought I needed company I guess? Your snake that she still drags all over the house, lol!

  2. Now this looks like everyone is having a ball! I knew you would be working hard over at your house on Halloween activities. That is so neat that they all look forward to it.

  5. Dare I say this in print - Halloween is not my favorite holiday. Please, please forgive me. :-) EXCEPT when I hear what's going on at your house because then we are talking about a major art class, team learning, along with fun, laughter, and smiles thrown in. I would love to hear your grandkids comparing you to other grandmas at school because there is no-one out there who can even be on the same page with your wonderful creativity. I bet when you were in college you never thought what good use you would put that education to for an entire lifetime of learning. You go, grandma Joyce, because you make us all proud and give us an opportunity to be more creative.

  6. What FUN! That looks like my house when my four daughters were growing up. Now that I have a granddaughter, I am hoping to do fun things like this with her and any other grands that happen along. You are, obviously, a fun grandma! :)

  7. Such amazing artists and such a wonderful Grandma to encourage and help them create. I was going to tell you not to let them grow up but you keep getting new little ones so I guess it doesn't matter! Does make me miss the days when Amara was little!

  8. You are such a fun grandmother. You could seriously run activity workshops for parents! This reminds me of when my sister was younger and thought there was a chocolate-eating monster who lived in the pantry. I had so much fun leaving notes and other goodies from "the Chocolate Monster."
